Aiii’s New Festival Venue a Hit

Nov 10, 2017
8,000 strong crowd gives a 'Thumbs Up’ to FREE DIWALI - 15 October 2017,
A massive gamble to shift the Diwali Fair venue from Sandown Race Course to the Springers Leisure Centre paid off for the AIII Executive Committee as thousands took advantage of perfect weather conditions and free entry to participate in the AIII’s 16th Diwali Fair.

Managed exclusively by Dr RnB Entertainment, the packed 10-hour programme featured the usual food and variety stalls, Children’s and Camel Rides and an all new stage entertainment featuring variety and fashion shows.

The programme started with prayers to Goddess Laxmi performed by the AIII’s resident priest Mr Babu Akula followed by Ganesh Sloka and ‘Pushpanjali’ by Navaratna Arts.

Bollywood Dancers, Stand-Up Comedy, Kids Paintings, Budding Singers and Musicians fused with intermittent fill-in music from Master DJ SHY’AM and DJ Kaushal kept the audience in the hall enthralled.

Stage MC SWETHA did a tremendous job of controlling a packed programme – the highlight of which was a fashion show produced by Fashion Peacock and a special Dhol performance by Melbourne’s favourite Dholis “Dhol Pathak”.

Invited guests included Ms Gabriel Williams, MP (Federal Member for Dandenong), Ms Inga Peulich, MP (Shadow Minister for Scrutiny in Government), Cr Heang Tak (representing the Mayor of the City of Greater Dandenong), several State MP’s and Dandenong Councillors and a surprise visit from Former Premier Mr Ted Baillieu.

The 2017 winners of the AIII’s Annual Awards were announced as Ms Hitanjnee Yatawara (Young Achievement Award) and Mrs Madhu Dudeja (Community Services Award).

An inaugural prelude to the AIII’s Diwali Fair was launched at Federation Square on 7th October. FLASH MOB featuring DHOL PATHAK by JANAGANA DHOL (a double sided barrel slung over the neck and played using 2 wooden sticks). The performance attracted a multi-national crowd including visitors to the City of Melbourne, who all joined in the dancing to the tune of the drums.

A massive 8-minute continuous fireworks display rounded off a massive day’s entertainment, cheered on by excited youngsters and the growing crowd, some from the neighbouring estates.

The AIII team and their event partner Dr RnB Entertainment wishes to thank this year’s sponsors – OPTUS, WAVES CONSULTANCY, SIMOND HOMES, RAINE & HORNE KEYSBOROUGH, BUPA and of course our funding partners VMC and THE CITY OF GREATER DANDENONG for supporting this event.

See you all for our HOLI FESTIVAL OF COLOURS – Venue & Date to be announced soon….
