Record Crowds Enjoy Parramatta Lanes Festival

More than 100,000 people turned out to experience an eclectic mix of food, art and music at the award-winning Parramatta Lanes festival last week.

The four-day festival, now in its sixth year, transformed the Parramatta CBD into the ultimate food paradise with a choice of more than 50 food vendors and five licensed bars across 12 laneways and hidden spaces.

On offer were street food pop-ups from the likes of BUTTER SYDNEY, JIMMY LIKS, ESPRESSO WARRIORS, 2 SMOKING BARRELS, AGAPE ORGANICS, JOHNNY LOBSTER and Neil Perry’s BURGER PROJECT which complimented the extravagant line up of sweets from well-known favourites including KOI DESSERT BAR, STROOPBROS, ADORA CHOCOLATES and PIMP MY DONUT.

“Parramatta Lanes has proven once again that the combination of food, art and music is the perfect trifecta - the event keeps going from strength to strength every year. It was wonderful to see festival-goers embracing the energy and vibrancy of Lanes and enjoying our normally quiet, hidden spaces in a whole new way,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.

“This festival has created a name for itself with its mix of amazing food offerings, colourful and vibrant artworks and diverse music.”

The innovative festival adds to the Parramatta appeal as a destination of choice which already offers a compelling food and cultural experience in Western Sydney.

“We’ve already seen some big food names, such as Neil Perry’s Burger Project setting up in Parramatta following their successful involvement with Lanes and Bay Vista Dessert Bar because of their large western Sydney customer following,” Cr Wilson said.

“We’re very excited to be welcoming Butter eatery to Parramatta in a few short weeks following their successful involvement with our Lanes event in recent years.”

Head Chef of Butter and 2015 Young Chef of the Year Julian Cincotta said: “We love ideas and concepts that push boundaries and Parramatta Lanes does exactly that on a large scale.”

Mr Cincotta anticipates their concept of sneakers, fried chicken and champagne will add a new dimension to the Parramatta dining scene and in return cultivate a loyal customer base.

“Lanes really showcased the energy, diversity and inclusiveness relating to the culture and passion for food that exists in Parramatta - it’s unlike many other places in Australia. The moment you understand that Sydney is not limited to the CBD and surrounds is the moment you really start to understand the diversity that Sydney has to offer,” he said.

Parramatta Lanes was awarded the ‘Best Community Event’ at the prestigious national Australian Event Awards in 2016.
