Students

As I prepared for my school test last week, I thought about how many times I’d been doing my preparation in the same way, at the same time and in the same place! No wonder boredom and procrastination are habits that are so easy to become susceptible to when the routine is so monotonous and predictable. As a student, I knew I needed to spice-up my study system and wondered when was the last time I tried to incorporate something new in my study style? As I began re-organizing my books, I found myself getting excited for expressing my thoughts and creativity in a different way. This not only gave me a fresh perspective, but it also made me appreciate my willingness to step out of my comfort zone consciously.

Dear Readers, it has been a while since I last wrote on changes in Immigration Law and Policy. But on 8th February 2010, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans announced such major changes to Skilled Migration that it will change the entire landscape of the education and immigration industry. These changes are intended to remove the current rot that existed in the Skilled Migration program for a while, where people were virtually buying their way into Permanent Residence without having any of the skills they have nominated to get their Australian Residency. Whether the policies they are planning to implement will work or not in the long run, only time will say. But in the short run, it has created a lot of confusion, dissatisfaction and hopelessness among many students and prospective migrants.

For many students, the exam preparation period is filled with time-pressure, anxiety, and stress. Although most exams are only meant to assess your concise understanding of the year’s syllabus, it nevertheless is a time where you need to concentrate, focus, and retain information. The final exam must be taken seriously, and revision for such an exam will need adequate preparation. To study effectively, it is important for you to first create an optimal learning environment. You should choose to study consistently at one place so your mind gets into the habit of working constructively whenever you are in that particular space.
