Western Institute of Technology welcomes “The Painting Crew”

Western Institute of Technology, the first private international college to provide the Certificate III in Painting and Decorating course in Victoria has recently recruited 15 new domestic students to the course.
This has come as a result of WIT’s connections with local community groups developed to assist asylum seekers and their families in up skilling and helping them in their search for employment. They were contacted by one of these groups who wish to provide help and support to people in Victoria and were delighted to be able to be of assistance to them by offering our building and construction course and providing them with the real skills they need in order to find employment here.
WIT’s new recruits, ‘The Painting Crew’, are a group of young people who came, with their families, from the south-east Asian country of Burma seeking a better life. Coming from a country which continues to struggle to overcome its ethnic tensions, these people are in pursuit of a better lifestyle, one in which their human rights are not questioned.
Because of this, Western Institute of Technology is proud to be able to provide these new students with the opportunity to learn the skills they require to work in an ever growing industry that is building and construction. This course provides an in-depth knowledge in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work. It holds national accreditation and can lead onto many different pathways such as a Diploma of Building & Construction Management, Business Management etc but its completion almost guarantees the graduate immediate work in the field as they receive a White card which is a prerequisite for all those wanting to work in the construction industry here.
WIT is delighted with the response from the new students regarding their studies here. The students are reportedly very happy in their new learning environment and WIT are feeling very optimistic about the results they will reap from the completion of this course.
To date, from the number of our domestic and international students who’ve graduated from the Cert III in Painting and Decorating, over 50% have found employment in the field and WIT have no doubts that the new ‘Painting Crew’ will achieve the same results!
