Mr Baillieu must honour Multicultural funding Commitments

May 9, 2011

Victorian Opposition Leader

Dear Readers,
Our multicultural communities are one of our state’s greatest strengths.

They are at the heart of a strong and diverse Victoria.
That’s why it’s so important that the Baillieu Government deliver on its commitments to multicultural groups.

The Coalition promised $13.2 million for multicultural communities over the next four years.
Last year alone, Labor delivered $15.8 million to Victoria’s multicultural communities - more funding in a single year than Mr Baillieu has committed over the next four years.

We are calling on the Government to deliver on each and every one of it’s election commitments.
To do anything less would be unfair to Victoria’s multicultural communities.

So far, the Baillieu Government has done little to convince multicultural communities that it will act in their interests, after it failed to consult with key stakeholder groups over legislative changes to the role of the Victorian Multicultural Commission.

These changes will effectively undercut the role of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, which has played a vital role in enhancing our state’s diversity.

Labor is proud of its record on supporting multicultural communities, and will be working hard to ensure the Baillieu Government delivers on all of its election commitments.
