NSW Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell MP
May 12, 2010
I welcome this opportunity to out the approach a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will take to the delivery of transport infrastructure.
The State Labor Government can’t be trusted to deliver its so-called Transport Blueprint after breaking virtually every major transport promise it has made over the past 15 years.
The latest lines on a map Kristina Keneally has announced are as worthless as the previous nine plans this incompetent State Labor Government has announced.
Those nine earlier so-called plans contained at least 70 projects worth billions of dollars, which have never seen the light of day.
Labor’s process is flawed.
It’s only about the next election, not about planning for the future.
Labor’s plans never last beyond the next election.
There is no rigour to them, there is no independent expert advice and there is no clear path for delivery.
So what will make a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government different?
The NSW Liberals & Nationals want a transport future that works and delivers for the people of NSW.
That’s the reason we will introduce an Integrated Transport Authority to ensure plans that are announced meet the transport needs.
We will put the framework in place to make sure plans meet the State’s transport future.
Our Integrated Transport Authority will have an independent board to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
The board will blow the whistle on a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government if projects aren’t meeting those goals.
We will end Kristina Keneally’s ‘lights, camera, no action’ approach.
The NSW Liberals & Nationals committed to prioritising rail links to Sydney’s North West and South West and commencing construction in the first term of a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.
We will also introduce the electronic ticketing system first promised by Labor to be in place for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games – but never delivered.
