Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Apr 11, 2010Over time, we all tend to accumulate and revolve around a set of constricting habits that locks us in a comfortable space. We could be performing well below our potential whether it is in school, work, sport or any other life area, when we operate from our tightly cocooned box. These habits determine what we think we can and cannot do. I’ve noticed form my earlier experiences in life that the more I shrunk my comfort zone, the bigger and scarier the outside world became. This in turn made me even more fearful of venturing outside my comfort zone. This has probably happened to you too, when you wanted to make new friends, change a fashion style, reach for bigger and greater goals, travel alone, and etc. When you’re a teenager, it takes great courage to step out of your comfort zone, especially when you’re challenged to do something you’ve never done before!
If you’re a big fan of your own comfort zone, it’s because it is comfortable and safe. Change requires risk, courage and discomfort. This can give birth to a lot of fear. Unfortunately, giving in to this fear is the best way to stagnate and to lose self-confidence. If you would like to bring a positive change into your life, you have to be willing to step out of some parts of your current comfort zone. Try to slowly expand your comfort circle little at a time along with making some radical shifts in your thoughts and beliefs. Each time you are presented with an unfamiliar situation in your life, you can either give in to the fears or you can take some inspired action.
Getting out of your comfort zone is a great way to push your limits. Pushing yourself will make you mentally and emotionally stronger. Here are two reasons why;
1.Adventure - I’ve always found that once I push through my initial fears, a sense of fun and adventure follow.
2. Boredom Vanishes – Trying something new can never be boring. Being focused upon trying something new always brings a rush of adrenaline and that’s when you can say goodbye to boredom.
Challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone as often as you can. It’s a great way to advance yourself!
